Last June Diedie Weng visited the beekeeper and his wife to show them the finished film. Here her thoughts on it:
This June, I went to see the beekeeper and his wife. It was strange to be back in their home. It felt like no time had passed. Though some of the surrounding have changed, the climate and the rhythm of the beekeeper’s work stayed the same. They have a new kitten and quite a few rabbits instead of the pigs. It was raining in the valley most of the time when I was there. No children were home to help the beekeeper and his wife out, so I gave them a hand. I spent one morning helping them cut up the queen bee's eggs to fetch royal jelly.
I showed them the final film. They really loved it, they said "it is very real." After the scene with his mom, the beekeeper breathed a deep sigh like a long wind through the dark night, and then his eyes went red. Since their family lost the goose a while ago, the wife said: "Without this film, we wouldn't see the goose again, this naughty and silly goose.“ The beekeeper said: “Maofu would have become very good with the bees by now if he had stayed.” But Maofu is still in Beijing with am unstable job, and both of them are very anxious about his marital status.
